Start at ground level
Landmarks are often introduced through a skyline. People encounter them through an entrance, a path, a pause in the shade or a moment of uncertainty. Those smaller experiences deserve a place in the brief from the beginning.
Ask who the place is for
A destination has more than one user. Visitors, staff, neighbours, service teams and people with different access needs may experience the same place very differently. Identifying these perspectives early gives the visual idea a richer purpose.
Let the setting ask difficult questions
Water, climate, movement and maintenance are part of the place, not details to add later. At concept stage, the responsibility is to make these questions visible and define the specialist work needed to answer them. A sustainability claim needs evidence beyond a green image.
Give technology a purpose
Technology should support a defined human need. A clearer arrival, a more understandable route or a simpler service can be a stronger starting point than a list of features. The most useful future concept explains the experience it is trying to improve.
